Research & Projects Overview
The Kuskokwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission coordinates several salmon monitoring and assessment research projects, and partners with other agencies and researchers to implement others. The goal of these projects is to use local and Indigenous Knowledge and Western scientific methods to better understand salmon on the Kuskokwim, including when and how many juvenile smolt exit and adult spawners return in the summer; how salmon body sizes and ratios of female to male fish are changing; and how salmon are affected by climate change and warmer river water temperatures.
