Job Announcement: CBHM Harvest Monitors
KRITFC is hiring Harvest Monitors in several lower Kuskokwim River communities to work with our Community-Based Harvest Monitoring (CBHM) program this summer. CBHM Harvest Monitors collect salmon harvest information in their communities after subsistence fishing opportunities. This information is compiled by KRITFC staff into lower river harvest estimates, which help salmon managers make informed in-season decisions.
Position Description: CBHM Harvest Monitors collects salmon harvest surveys in their communities after subsistence salmon harvest opportunities. Information included in the surveys includes the fishing time and location, mesh size used, and number of fish by species caught, as well as occasional age-sex-length and scale samples. This information is sent to KRITFC staff to produce lower river harvest estimates, which are used by KRITFC and US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) during in-season salmon management. There may be 1-3 Harvest Monitors per community, depending on its size. Harvest Monitors work a seasonal, part-time position.
